Gratitude challenge day 14… children who cook…

I wish I could adequately describe the smell in my home… mmmm… garlic, potatoes, onion, celery, carrots…  The very best part of this yummy smell… I have nothing to do with it.

Nope… I’m not cooking today.  Instead Emme (age 11) is.  She’s making a soup recipe that she and her friend, Korah, created Friday evening.  By adding a little of this and tossing in a little of that, the two girls concocted a very delicious dish that Emme is now sharing with us.

Yesterday, seven year old Ellen made me scrambled eggs for breakfast and we both declared them to be the best scrambled eggs EVER!  I’m not sure what it is about scrambled eggs but it is the dish that all three of my kids first learned to make on their own.

Eric, age 13, has a few recipes that he has created and will cook for the family.  It seems like it has been a little while since he’s made his signature dish, Creamy Chicken Noodles…  I think I may have to ask him to make that again….

Tonight, as I sit in my pj’s watching NFL and smelling the delicious scents from the kitchen, I am very grateful for children who cook and who like to cook!

  1. That's funny about the scrambled eggs because it's the first dish our kids have learned to make too! Andrew's been known to bring me scrambled eggs in bed from time to time! Gotta love kids learning to cook! 🙂 Enjoy your soup!Lisa H.

  2. Yum! I have as much fun as the kids when we cook together, but I agree when they cook on their own it is a treat to me. I also like when they cook things that they typically don't eat because when they cook it they somehow automatically like it. 🙂

  3. Heidi,I hear the appreciation in your voice! Not only are you blessed to have such precious chefs in the house, but they are blessed to have a Mom who says "thank you" and "make it again." What a sweet gift!

  4. I love it when my daughter cooks! I was always determined that my girls weren't going to move out on their own and live on ramen. lol Sounds like you've done a wonderful job with your crew! Enjoy your soup!

  5. I think it is awesome when the kids cook….for that matter, I think it is pretty awesome when someone else *thinks* what we are going to cook! I don't mind the cooking, if someone points me to what it is I'm going to cook.;)Now if someone would just do the shopping!Have a very blessed week!Cheryl

  6. I think the first dish I learned how to make was scrambled eggs, too. It is a good starter dish. You remind me that I should spend more time teaching my children to cook. It probably doesn't help that about half my cooking is done while the children sleep in in the mornings. 😉

I'd love to know what you think...
