Sunday the wind blew.
Perhaps you have already heard…
because apparently the Midwest is all over the news wires.
Staggering reports of entire communities leveled,
homes blown away,
Ratings like EF-1 and EF-2
are spoken in the same sentence
as towns and roads
and neighborhoods that I know.
“God alone understands the way to wisdom;
he knows where it can be found,
for he looks throughout the whole earth
and sees everything under the heavens.
He decided how hard the winds should blow
and how much rain should fall.
He made the laws for the rain
and laid out a path for the lightning.
Then he saw wisdom and evaluated it.
He set it in place and examined it thoroughly.
And this is what he says to all humanity:
‘The fear of the Lord is true wisdom;
to forsake evil is real understanding.’”
This is the part that blows my mind.
God decides how hard the wind should blow
and He laid out a path for the lightening.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
As we help friends and neighbors clean up
I am struck to my core once again…
He is God, I am not.
Just as He knows the path the wind will take,
Though earthly things are shredded
lives are spared.
He is a dichotomy I cannot understand.
And when the wind blows again,
I will find my comfort in Him…
because He is in the wind.
