on following well…

“I need a leader,” his stress palpable in the waning heat.

“I can lead well,” I answered.

I spoke truthfully that July evening. I do lead well. Following, though, is another story.

Isn’t it just like God to turn things around to teach us the most good?

When I replied confidentally in my my leadership skills, I was completely unaware that I was approaching a lesson in following.

I tend to plan…everything. I have contigency plans for my contingency plans. The key being.. my plans. This summer, my God took me on a whirlwind field trip to teach me to follow His lead in every step of my life. Even when…especially when…it doesn’t make sense to my limited understanding.

That’s just it… I have limited understanding. As Paul said, “Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.” 1 Corinthians 13:12

At the end of the whirlwind, I can honestly say, I want to follow well.

Because He knows me better than I know myself.
